A Lady knows what style is and how it can benefit her. As I have said before. Life is what you make of it and how you live it fluidly. I have been on this journey with the goal of simplifying and focusing on what really matters- a sort of minimalism if you wish.
There are so many “Must have” articles that tell you the Top 12 or 30 pieces to have in your wardrobe, but they don’t work for me and my tastes. I have determined to have an intentional closet, and less really is more. A lot of clichés, I know, but true. A symbol of true feminine style in my mind is Lauren Conrad. She is fresh, beautiful and simple in her style. I Love it!
I researched and found the “Bones” wardrobe that I think works best for me and my tastes. I then went to polyvore, and created my wardrobe with my favorite colors and elements.
Some Tricks to Know:
1. wool, cotton and silk can last a lifetime if you take care of them. and they don’t look cheap!
2. Lower quality acrylics and knits can get pilly and shiny- a sign of poor quality.
3. Hems should always be flat and smooth.
4. Seams Should be straight and lie flat, no puckering at all.
5. Patterns and stripes should always match at the seams-poor quality is assumed if they don’t (It doesn’t mater what brand it is!).
6. Lining is always a good thing! A lining adds structure and form, plus it helps eliminate the need for a slip!
The “Bones” Essentials:
A little Black Dress
A Classic Trench
A Crisp White tailored shirt
A Cashmere cardigan in a bright color
A pair of Dark denim trousers
A pair of classic jeans in my favorite fit-boyfriend or boot cut.
A pair of ballet flats- I love the leopard print which is versatile and adds personality.
A Pair of Black classic pumps- I like a lower heel, but its whatever you feel comfortable in.
A Black tote bag
A brown sachel
A pretty clutch with color and details that I love!
A men’s style watch
Diamond Studs and a classic necklace with diamond pendant- Diamonds are forever!
My Fashion Sense:
3 Tees- I added a basic black tee and white tee- buy several inexpensive ones and replace as these will wear out fast. A v neck is a classic and feminine look that elongates the neck and goes well with necklaces. I also added a colored tee that can be worn with many different pieces and can be dressed up or down for church, work, or play.
2 Blouses- cream and green, feminine and pretty
A chambray shirt
Two knee length dresses- one patterned sundress, and one solid for a more polished or dressy effect.
A White cardigan
A denim jacket
A full floral sirt that can be worn each season, with different looks
A Black pencil skirt- Some opt for an A line instead
A Pair of khakis\A Pair of colored pants- I opted for a shade of pink that went well with my magenta cardigan.
A Pair of black trousers
A pair of khaki shorts
A Pair of Black trouser shorts- can be dressed up with heels in the summer for a date night.
A Long Winter coat. I opted for a pink shade that isn’t black, or White ( The two most classic shades)
Black leggings for winter
A pair of nude flats
A pair brown sandals- make sure they are dressy enough for summer work and casual days (wedges do better than heels
A Pair of classic Brown riding boots
A black cardigan
A Pair of black booties
And that is it! Add accessories or a FEW trendy pieces, but this is a wardrobe that will last and still be stylish season after season.
Why don’t you try out polyvore and tell me what you come up with for your own personal style? I’d love to hear from you!
